Have you been staring at your computer for the last couple of hours? Are you plain old tired with your job? Do you feel like you are wasting away in a dead end job?
You aren’t the only one. Comedian Drew Carey remarked, “Oh, and you hate your job? Why didn’t you say so? There’s a support group for that. It’s called EVERYBODY and they meet at the bar.”
Really though, you aren’t the only one. One recent survey says that almost 75% of Americans are unhappy with the jobs that they hold. The number one reason is that they feel that their talents are wasted because they are not applicable to their current job. You may feel that you placed under too much stress to accomplish things that are unreasonable. You may feel that you can’t get anywhere in your job. You may feel that you are being intentionally blocked from promotion.
Maybe take a step back. Sure, your work might suck. But, instead of thinking about all of the horrible things that your employer does, have you stopped to think about what you can do about yourself?
There are many reasons that people feel stuck. Have you considered going back to school? What is stopping you?
1) I don’t have time!
This excuse is used by people all over the country. They feel like, even if they hate their job, they can’t escape. They need to be working full time, and then there are family responsibilities. They can’t just drop their family for school! This is why an online school is a great option. You never have to go to a physical campus and actually go to class. All you have to do is sign up for classes and you can pick whenever you want to go to class.
Too good to be true? It really isn’t. Online degrees may take a little bit longer, but if you are disciplined, you will be able to finish when you want. You can study during your lunch break at work. You can study on the weekends, and you can even study when your kids are doing homework.
2) I don’t have money!
This is a very legitimate concern. If you stop working to go to school full time, you won’t have your income. But, if you don’t stop going to work, you will never make more because you won’t be able to go to school. It is quite a pickle to be in. However, there is hope for you. There are many scholarships and grants that are available to those who need. If you choose to take online classes, tuition is generally less expensive because online colleges do not have to worry about up keeping buildings and such.
3) How is it going to benefit me anyways?!
A silly question indeed. Furthering your education is going to open endless opportunities to you. You will not be stuck in a job where you feel that you are wasting away. You are going to be able to make more money. The benefits are endless.
If you really feel that you could do better when it comes to work, make a change. Don’t keep sitting around the water cooler moping around about how you could be doing something different. Actually make a change. If you feel that the online college is the way to go, research what programs you could enroll in. Make a change to your life; you will be happy that you did.
